Great News!!!!
After successfully achieving funding from The Community Facilities & Activities Programme (CFAP) 2007-2010, under sections 126-128 of The Housing Grants, Construction and Regenerations Act 1966, Work commenced on the hall refurbishment on Monday 3rd December 2007. The work has been completed and we have had our "OPEN DAY" on June 21st where everyone was invited to view the renovations and to enjoy an activity packed day. (See details on our Welcome page).
Gilead started on the road of application for funding in May 2005. With the help and assistance of the Welsh Assembly Government Regeneration Unit officer Mr. Anthony Pugh, the application for funding was finally granted in August 2007.
Gilead Chapel was built in 1826 and is classed as a building of Historical Interest. The Hall was built in 1938. Both have been restored to their former glory and the added facilities for the disabled by way of access and toilets have been installed.
The Welsh Assembly Government have awarded the sum of £170,678.24 under CFAP, and this funding will ensure that both the Chapel and Hall continue to serve the village of Coity, and the community at large into the next century.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Carwyn Jones A.M.P. and Mrs. Jackie Radford for their help, and a very special thank you to Mrs. Ella Dodd for her tireless assistance during the application period.

We have changed our times of Sunday Worship from 2.30 p.m to 11.00 a.m./ there is also ‘Kidz Sunday Club!! a children’s hour of fun, with crafts, videos, games and time to learn something new and meet new friends. This starts at 11.00. a.m. Click Here for the poster. There are extra evening services on Christmas, Easter, Harvest and other special Christian Calendar events, which are all extremely well attended.
A Communion Service is held every first Sunday of the month, and a Prayer and Bible study hour takes place every Thursday night at 7.00.
There is a Family service on the last Sunday of each month followed by refreshments in the hall.
Come and join us! All are welcome.
Coffee Mornings are held every Wednesday morning between 11.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon, and are very well attended, not only by chapel members but members of the village and local community. Music quizzes and musical evenings are also now taking place, and these are organised by the senior members of the community and are self -funding, with surplus monies being donated to the Chapel funds. All are warmly welcomed.
Thursday Dinner Club is held in the hall for the seniors of the village and community and this has proved to be a major social event since its inception late in 2004. Many housebound members of the community are ferried to and from the hall and enjoy the food and fellowship, which they would not normally have in their lonely weeks at home, the dinner and fellowship lasting between 1-3 hours. A testimony to the enjoyment of the event!
Yoga Classes – Held every Monday Afternoon at the Hall (starts at 1.00 p.m)
The Christmas , Easter and Harvest Services once again fill the Chapel and it is encouraging to witness the amount of families attending and the promises made towards support for the Chapel in attendance and help. The services of a recently retired well known and liked local minister have been offered to us, accompanied by various other local lay preachers. We are actively promoting the Chapel and the Hall in the area and are excited with the ‘turn around’ in attendances we have witnessed over the last 3 years.
With the proposed housing development at Parc Derwen, Coity, there will be a further 1500 houses within our parish thus further swelling the population in our community, another area able to benefit from the improved Chapel and hall facilities. This will continue to bring the chapel and hall back to the centre of worship and social gatherings within the village and community at large.
Members of the community have helped with donations towards the costs of repairs thus far carried out and grants and aid have been received towards the cost of the work so far completed and future projects in hand, further regenerating the Chapel and hall. Funds have been obtained by contacting local business people, farmers and tradesmen who have helped and supplied materials and workers to complete urgent repairs. It is proposed that these efforts will be continued along with community fund raising activities by the chapel in conjunction with Coity Village Association and the Guides, Brownie and Rainbow associations.
To help with the funding of future repairs and refurbishments local community grants are being actively pursued, as are grants available from Foundations / Trusts who financially assist Christian and community conscious organisations. We have received varied amounts of money from local sources such as the Coity Higher Community Council, the Coity Village Association and Coity Village School, all echoing the fact that they are pleased to see the resurgence of Gilead within the community.
Grants have also been received towards the repair work on the Chapel and Hall from The Welsh Churches Act Fund, The James Pant Y Fedwen Fund, and The Garfield Weston Foundation. The pursuance of such grant monies is an ongoing task to ensure that Gilead has the correct and safe facilities to serve the community into the next century and on!
